Share and grow your cooking skills and repertoire in a social, fun and hands-on environment. Recipes will be decided upon by the group and we will cook lots to take home for our families. Everyone is welcome to join! Pre-registration requested, but drop-in allowed if space permits

    Hosted by Village Vancouver and Strathcona Community Centre at Strathcona Community Centre, 601 Keefer St. on Thursday October 8 (6:30-8:30pm) Cost $10 + $7 materials In this hands-on workshop, Alyssa Kohlman will show you how to create home-made fruit "fruit soda pop" from water kefir starter culture -- from creating the initial mixture to filtering and bottling it. The result is a highly carbonated, dry, healthful food drink. You will get to sample the finished product, and take home your own kefir starter grains with printed instructions. Bring a small, leak proof jar for your grains. Cost: $10 (50% discount available with Leisure Access Card), plus $7 materials fee. Registration: #17841. To save money we’ll buy in bulk and create our own mixtures such as fajita spice, Italian seasoning and Moroccan inspired. Spices will be included in the class price. In these hands-on workshops, Alyssa Kohlman will show you how to make "local veggie slaw.” We’ll use seasonal vegetables from local farmers, and the October workshop will use different vegetables than the November workshop. You’ll be fully active in creating the slaw, and will take home a jar of veggie ferment seasoned with your own customized spice mixture. Bring any of the following items that you can: cutting board, large knife, kitchen scissors, large bowl or tub, wide-mouth jar and lid.. Registration SCC: 604.713.1838 or online (Slaw!
